So I started training with Rick Noda just short of 5 months ago. I started at 243lbs and now weigh in at 200lbs even :). The great news is my Lab Report I just got back this morning from my Dr. See below his quote.

Rick, I want to share my weekend. I was hiking the Back Country of the Sierra Nevada’s the last 4 days. This is something I do multiple times per year. This year was an exception, I typically experience issues with fatigue and lack of oxygen symptoms at 11000ft. This year I took some l9 to 23 yr old’s in the back country, I found myself leading the hike with more energy…more

Rick is the man! He’s intense, knows his stuff and makes it fun. His energy is off the charts and gets you hooked. He is very detailed and explains what area is being targeted and why. I put off getting back in shape for a while to now being addicted. High recommend.

If motivation and energy are what you need to get in shape, this is your place.
The training staff: obviously you have to mention Rick Noda who runs the show. He is a registered fitness nurse who has used his years of Elite Triathlete coaching and his years as a licensed nurse to create the perfect blend of wellness and athletic aspiration. He brings so much energy to each workout that you cannot help but become enthusiastic yourself. You actually want to perform the exercises (I cant believe that I am saying that). He also gives his clients an understanding of how their exercises can lead to less pain and get them to the level of performance they would like to achieve.
The Environment: It can be almost anywhere!!! While their studio is in a great location on the 101, he also takes his workout to the gorgeous cliffside areas in Encinitas for his more casual workouts on the weekend. He will go to client’s homes as navigating the obstacles in ones home can be an athletic event for some senior citizens or individuals with some diseases.
The ideal client: I am just a 40 y/o guy who wants his wife to still find him attractive in the years to come, and believe me that Rick can beat your body into any shape you are trying to achieve. But I also admire that he is training prior NFL players too in order to help them overcome much of the pain that the sport had left them with. For the casual person just trying to lose some weight or lower their cholesterol, he has some simpler routines to spruce up the metabolism. And for the senior citizen he has optimized the technique of functional movement to strengthen the clients body for the activities of daily life rather than focus on dumbells or something useless that you might see Suzanne Somers doing (no offense Chrissy!).

Rick is hands down the best trainer I have ever come across. His motivational tactics and sense of humor actually make working out fun! Beleive it or not, when I first met Rick I couldnt even run to the curb from the door, and within 6 months of training 2 to 3 times per week for an hour max each session I was running up to 8 miles in an hour without even having to work very hard. If you are sick and tired of wasting your time at the gym walking on a treadmill or running along the beach in a bootcamp style workout, join CaliFitWKO. I can honestly say that Rick and his coaching serveices have been life changing. His positive energy helps me not only to stay fit, but to live an overall healthy lifestyle. The truth is, Rick has saved my life not once, but possibly 3 or 4 times. #InRickWeTrust

Rick kicks your butt without you even knowing it. You won’t even know you are working out until you are sore for the next three days. Mostly because the exercises are so fun and he keeps you laughing the whole time. His enthusiasm for fitness is contagious!

Went to check out a TRX class because I was in the area and it sounded fun. Rick was awesome, focused on proper form and muscle engagement, and was very encouraging throughout the workout. I was the only one in the class so it’s a shame more people don’t know about this place. Seems like the small businesses have great services but don’t seem to get the exposure as the bigger places. I will definitely be back to check out another class to support this small business…

This review is long over due… Rick’s trained me for five years, and holds the honor of being the best coach I’ve ever had. I say this with the additional confidence that comes as a Sports Medicine health professional working in the same field. For me, Rick is the coach I’ve gone to when I needed inspiration, guidance, and to step up my athletic game. And now that I live in Florida, I’m glad to say his FaceTime training sessions are priceless.

I spent a week in Utah working with Rick and his advice still rattles around inside my head as I’m pushing myself harder and harder on the bike. It was the little gems he dropped in the middle of conversations that will have the greatest long-term impact on me.

His energy was contagious and his focus on the fitness mission was unmatched. Every moment was a teaching moment and every second could be spent making yourself a better version of yourself.

“Mobility, stability, and life brings the intensity.”

My husband started with Rick way before I did. Because he asked me to, I started in January. I had watched their Skype sessions and really did not want to do what they were doing! But we didnt. Rick talked with me and tailored our workouts for my body and my mind. I have Rheumatoid arthritis and we work on strengthening my body while not aggravating my RA. It has been and continues to be wonderful for me. I, usually, look forward to my time with Rick. Thanks CaliFit.

I am an avid runner with aspirations of qualifying for the Boston Marathon. I moved to North Carolina 2 years ago, was searching for a new coach, and Rick was recommended by one of my coworkers. Rick is not unlike my prior coaches in that is he takes the time to set up a good training plan, makes sure I understand it, and is always willing to discuss my point of view. What separates Rick from my previous coaches is his level of energy, his continuously positive outlook, and his whole body approach. To say that Rick is high energy is like saying the Empire State Building is tall; the words do not do him justice. I look forward to our sessions knowing that in the end, I will be tired, but also confident that my running goals are attainable. Rick is also unique in that he puts as much emphasis on diet and strength training as he does on running mileage. All of my coaches have put me in the position to run the distance required for a marathon, but Rick is the only one to give my body the strength to recovery quickly and avoid injury. My spouse has noted that I no longer limp around the house after a long run. As an athlete himself, Rick has access to elite coaches and colleagues, from which he regularly seeks advice. Finally, Rick is mindful of tools and technology (i.e., Skype, Stryd, and Training Peaks). It is truly amazing how much Rick and I can interact through Skype when we are 2500 miles apart; it’s like he is right there in the room with me making minor adjustments to my form as we exercise or just making sure I keep breathing.
Working with Rick was my first introduction to Training Peaks. I have used other training logs such as Garmin Connect and Buckeye Outdoors, both of which do an adequate job tracking my mileage and allowing my coach to provide feedback on my workouts. Garmin Connect also has some nice additional features including the running metrics. However, Training Peaks stands alone in its ability to allow me to analyze the data. Rick is vigilant when it comes to assessing my progress; monitoring heart rate, pace, cadence, and power (with the introduction of Stryd), and how they all interact. We have had several discussions on power:pace ratio, what it means, and how to improve upon it. One of my favorite features with Training Peaks is the ability to isolate small portions of a workout. I no longer have to make sure I hit the lap timer several times during a workout and then go back later and try to sort the events out.
In summary, I consider myself very fortunate to have Rick Noda as my coach because of his high energy, positive outlook, and consideration of the body as a whole. Training Peaks has become a valuable tool allowing Rick and I to monitor my progress and provide essential feedback on several running metrics. I hope this letter assists you in your consideration of Coach Rick Noda.

Training Peaks has been exactly what I was looking for in taking my training to a different level. Training Peaks allows me and Coach Rick to communicate even without us talking. I load my runs to the site and he is able to review my performance and comment or make changes accordingly. I like being able to make notes at the end of my run to give Coach feedback about how the run went for me. I like that my plan is loaded onto the site for my referencing and planning. I find myself looking at it sometimes several times a day mentally preparing for what’s to come! I love the accountability of the site, of knowing Coach will see what I’ve done. It motivates me to show up and prove to Coach I believe in me and want to be better.

    Sincerely
    Natalie
